Saturday's Recap written on Sunday morning.
Its been on my mind to give credit where it is due. The biggest part of the training for this race started 6 weeks from race day. For the first three weeks, I mirrored a training prgoram Peter Reid published in the Triathlete magazine when he announced his retirement (Peter won Hawaii 3 Times). I say mirrored, because, I am not capable of following the exact program. I am not fit enough. Additonally, my work schedule has been too busy, and honestly, I don't have the fire in my belly to really excel; I am also aware of capabilities, and they are not world class!
The program was probably written by Roch Frey, who has coached the world's best, including his wife, Heather Fuhr. In any case, the program has two LONG days a week, about 9 runs including 1 long run and one interval session. It also has 2 recovery days. The spacing on the workouts provides adequete rest, but the volume will make you sleep like its your job.
So this upcoming week is my last week of this type of training. What I have planned, is three more 5-hour bike rides, one 3-hour run, an interval run, recovery running, consistent swimming, and one more big bike interval (today). That should do it. At least that is the plan. By next Sunday, the big training will be done, and I can dramatically drop the volume and begin recovering.
With that, I also decided to enter a local sprint triathlon September 30th. The race is called Cinco Ranch, and its located just west of Houston in a town called Katy. I am really looking forward to it. Its going to be a lot of fun!!!
Yesterday's training recap:
Saturday morning, I started the day with a run, 5.6 miles. 158 Average Heart Rate. 42-43 minute range.
In the afternoon, we spent the day with our birthing class group. Everyone brought their babies and we ate and told stories about our birthing experience. It was pretty neat.
Saturday late afternoon, I swam for 1 hour and 13 minutes. My energy was a little low from the previous day's bike ride. I was going to do a second run, but felt like I just would have been flogging myself, so I went home and ate a big meal.
That is it for now~
