The New Ride!

Josh Rubin with the Custom Titanium RMS Triathlon Bike

My friend Josh stopped by today and a put the final touches on the bike I will be riding in Hawaii. Its a titanium frame and extra low in the front. I am real fortunate to have the opportunity to ride one of these bikes. He sells them, so if you are interested in a custom built Titanium Frame, Josh at www.rmstriathlon.com will help you get a custom ride for a very reasonable price.

I also fit some training in today. I started with a 4 mile run, then followed it with a fantastic swim. It was 4000 meters; it felt long, but I really didn't break down much until the last 400 meters. Even still, breaking down meant breathing on the same side a few times, rather than sticking with the "volunteer hypoxic" bilateral breathing. I am still not super fast, but I feel strong at the distance, and my stroke actually felt smooth and fluid. I really felt like I was grabbing the water, holding it, finishing the stroke down by my thigh. It was still a tough swim though. To me, the distance of these events is still a challenge in itself. Obviously, I haven't been Mr. Consistency in the water, so I can't expect too much.

After the swim, I ran 9 more miles. It was supposed to be warmup-tempo-cooldown format. The run was a little tough. I think I made a fatal nutrition mistake. I tried a new gel, and didn't wash it down with water. I drank some gatorade, but not straight water. As a result, I quickly developed some cramps in my gut. I probably didn't properly rehydrate after the swim either. It was humid outside, so I was sweating like crazy too.
I spent most of my time working through the cramps, and never really got any zip in my step. By the time I hit the last three miles, I had worked through the cramps, but with some accumulated fatigue, I didn't have a lot to offer. The big success for the day was just completing the workouts. I am pleased with it.

Thanks for checking in.
