The long run

Andrea and I totally miscommunicated today. I thought I had to be done my workouts at 4:30 p.m. so we could start our evening plans. Actually she had an appointment at 4:30, so I could have kept going! UHG.

I skipped the swim (thinking I had to be done by 4:30 p.m) and focused on the long run. I know I can swim 2.4 miles; and I can probably run 26.2, but the more I run, the easier it will be between mile 20 and mile 26.2.

It was 94 degrees, 48% humidity, and the heat index was 101. My long run was intended to be in the challenging heat, so I wore my fuel belt with gatorade and my camelbak with 3 Liters of water. It only took about 1:42 minutes to wear me down sufficiently enough to skip my last loop. The goal was at least 2 hours, ideally more towards 2:30. If I had been going a faster pace, I might have pushed through it more, but the 4:30 p.m. deadline was looming, so stopped a little early. Besides the opressive heat, my legs felt strong and well rested. The lunges work. There just wasn't much air to breathe.

I have a few more days off, so I will give it another try Thursday. Hopefully Wednesday, I can put some quality cycling and swimming behind me. (Of course if I didn't blog, I probably could have accomplished more as well!)

Have a great day.
