Donuts and Hair Color

I spent all of Monday in the "Altitude Chamber" (work). I thought I had time to run, but I was scheduled for a short night of rest Sunday night, and a lot (7+ hours) of flying Monday, so I did not want to skimp on sleep. I still have the intention of getting a good swim and a long run completed today (Tuesday).

After our first flight Monday morning, I was pretty hungry, so I stopped by Ponchitos in the Houston airport and ordered FOUR breakfast Tacos. They put a dent in the hunger, but I was yearing something more. I hate to admit it, but, I couldn't get my eyes off the chocolate covered donuts at Shipley's Donuts. I stealthily moved towards the Shipley's donut line and quickly made the choice. I looked to my left and right - "Phew, no health conscious triathletes in sight. "

"I'll have a chocolate filled and a chocolate covered donut please."

The young worker quickly filled the order and applied my 26 cent airport employee discount to the total cost; I paid cash to alleviate any evidence of the transaction, and I quickly disappeared back into the airport crowd. After the 50,000 calories, I didn't have to eat for the rest of the day!

I also ran into my friend Justin at the airport. He's also a pilot and endurance sport junkie. When we flew together many years ago, he crushed my ego! I had just completed my first marathon (Omaha, Nebraska) and was so proud! He started asking me about my race and finally asked me my time. Little did I know, he had already run about 6-7 marathons and was preparing to run THE Boston Marathon with his wife. His marathon time was about 13 seconds better than mine, and he said with a straight face "So how does it feel to have the second best marathon time?" Ouch, I thought I did pretty well! He'd be a great coach! Shortly thereafter, I did qualify and run Boston, and Justin was great to share the story with. He understands "the magic" of the Boston Marathon. I have only run it once, but it was very special! As for him being faster, what can I say? he's taller, and has straight legs! I truly appreciate the enthusiasm he has for endurance sports, and I am grateful he loves to hear my stories.

So here I am Tuesday morning, and Andrea asked me to help her Color her hair. Yes, you read that correctly. This is monumental because it means:

She is crazy.
We are saving $100.
She trusts me.
And this is all part of nesting.

So with that, I donned the black latex gloves and acrylic paint brush and began coloring those roots. I wish I had a camera. She returned the favor by "plucking" my eyebrows. That wasn't my idea either. If you see my wife, please tell her that her hair looks great; but if you see me, I would prefer you don't say anything about my eyebrows. In doing so, we will continue to save $100 on hair appointments, and I will not be reminded of the crazy things that happen to me now that I am married.

Have a great day. If I get the workouts completed, I will undoubtedly have something to report.
