Friday, I woke up to ride along with Stage 6 of the Tour, and the TV was broken. The picture had been given us a few problems, but now it was fried. I spent most of the morning putzing around trying to fix it and then Andrea said she would meet me at her appointment.
What? What appointment?
Turns out, sometimes even married people miscommunicate!!!
It wasn't her appointment, it was OUR appointment for the baby. Anyhow, we met at the Midwives' office and followed up with a quick lunch at Subway. Everything is A-OK with our son, Dan the 3rd. Andrea had to teach Yoga, so I headed off to the pool to swim. My friend Dave will be doing Ironman Lake Placid next week; he started a new job, and had to miss his swim workout, so while we were on the phone talking about his taper, he suggested I do his swim workout. Sure, OK. 800 warm-up, 1500, straight, 1000 straight, 400 cool down - Almost the Ironman swim. Took about 1:14. I wasn't hydrated or well nourished going into it, but managed to finish. I followed up with a very good session in the weight room. I didn't even have the energy to do anymore exercise, so I won't even pretend to say I could have done more.
Saturday Morning, I peeled myself out of bed to do part of Stage 7 of the Tour. What a stage today! I had to change TV arrangements. I moved the 13" kitchen TV into the living room and road in front of it for 2 hours. It was incredible watching the young German T-Mobile rider win the stage and the Yellow Jersey. He was really suffering, but kept it together, and had a stellar ride! Since today was a mountain stage, I road in a hard gear at a slow cadenece within my 155 bpm target heart rate. I went through 3 liters of water and a water bottle of Gatorade. The floor was soaked.
This afternoon, our neighbors Mike and Olga joined Andrea and me for a tour of the labor and delivery facility at our hospital. They were kind enough to take us out to lunch after the tour. Then Mike and I practiced driving the quickest route from our house to the hospital. No kidding.
After all that activity, I was pretty tired, but knew I had to fit a run in today. I did the 11.6 mile route, had a perfect 155 avg heart rate and completed the run in 1:35. Considering the heat and humidity, I will take it. It hurt a little. My arms wanted to fall off my shoulders, my stomach was knotty, I had a hot spot on my right baby toe, my left knee ached . . . I could feel every breath. No amount of water adequately quenched my thirst, so it was a good mental exercise. I realize I am behind on my long runs, but will get a good one in this week.
Temp was 83 degrees, humidity 76%, Heat index 91 degrees.
Only thing left is washing the dogs, then off to my wonderful bed . . . .
Tomorrow, I have to work all day, so I will rest my body from exercise and blogging. Talk to you again Monday evening!
