Heat of the Summer

My simulator check went pretty well. Of course, the first take-off was low visibility into windshear. Whatever happened to getting a warm-up? We stayed out of the dirt, so I am good for another six months. By the time I am sitting in that box dealing with all sorts of abnormalities again, I will be a dad (God Willing), and Kona 2007 will be in the history books.

I am off today, so I decided to put in some triathlon training time. I started at 0900 with a 1:15 - 1:30 easy heart-rate (<155bpm) run. Well, it seems like my distance target was a little overzealous. I figured 9-11 miles would be reasonable. The run went something like this:

At 8:00 Heart Rate is good - I only went a mile?
At 22:00 heart rate starting to drift upward
Slow Down - OK back to 155.
At 39:00 Normally, I would pretty close to home if I did one loop, but today, I was 1-mile short and I still had two more loops. But the Heart Rate is still good.
At 46:00 Feelings of the bonk - I ate a pretty big breakfast, I'll get through it.
At 59:00 Boy, its getting warm.
At 1:12 Don't feel like much of an "Ironman" - Heart Rate is pesky at 160 and I can't seem to slow down any more.
At 1:30 I'll do some strideouts - that will fix it - maybe 8 -10 of those with 3 minutes rest: More like 5, and its time to get back home.
At 1:48 Just about 1.3 miles from home, slow down, I am not doing anything and my Heart Rate is still 163. I should be home in 11 minutes.

At 1:52 I wonder who is putting up that fence?
1:52:25 Why am I doing this again? So I can run when its hot - big deal!!!
1:53:00 Its getting hotter.
1:53:12 I don't mind running on the asphalt, but there isn't any shade here.
1:53:28 This cement sidewalk hurts my joints; this shade is overrated.
1:53:37 "Kick start my heart . . . : Wow yah . . . " I am gonna need a kickstart soon. . .
1:53:52 Ironman shuffle - baby steps - seems so natural.
1:54:00 This run is getting long, ITB tightening, hips are tight, what's that in my knee?
1:55:00 Geez, I think I am getting a blister, did I put the right socks on?
1:56:11 "Hot Summer nights on my radio . . . That's all we need . . " Ya right, HOT SUMMER MORNINGS.
1:58:00 OK, two more stop signs and a right turn. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, what comes next? Oh yes, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 - - - 1,2,3, boy I could use some Coke.
2:00:00 Guess I won't have to do a long run this week!
2:01:09 Heck with the Heart Rate, I am running home.
2:03:58 Victory - Boy its hot! Heart Rate 177, Go figure. I am too old for this.

I clicked on the weather channel when I came in the door. 89 degrees/57% humidity/Heat Index 96/Ozone Watch in Effect.

Its gonna be a long summer.
