2 Beers and a Gel

Thursday and Friday were long days at work! The weather was horrible and we ended up flying nearly 15 hours in two days. After work Friday, I had every intention of running, but it just didn't work out. Instead, I had a nice dinner with Andrea, and watch some TV.

Following part of the successful training mantra of 1995 Hawaii Ironman Champion Karen Smyer's 3-2-1 rule, I had two beers that were left over from last weekend's entertainment. My understanding of her rule is:
3 beers 3 days prior to an triathlon, 2 beers 2 days prior, and 1 beer the night before the event. I have never tried it before a triathlon, but strangely enough, there may be some merit to it - seems like a beer the night before a training ride/run is OK! (I did run 3:13 or so in the Austin Marathon, and I remember having a beer the night before, but that was a "training" run. Even still, 3:13 is good for me!)
So first thing Saturday morning, I embarked on the the same 11.6 mile run as previously reported. Much success! I added a gel to my nutrition plan (or lack thereof), and finished much better than last time. This time, 86 degrees, 65 % Humidity, Heat Index of 93. 1:38 and 158 Average Heart Rate. More info than you want to know, but I still haven't logged any of my training, so I am leaving it here to track the progress and publicly humilitate myself if this "Long Steady Distance" training fails me!
Back to some more domestic duties: consequences of a check engine light = registering our "new" car!

Hopefully something more interesting later!

I hope Kent and Brad have great races up at Ironman CDA this weekend!
